Lange & Sohnet, Rangematic Perpetual & Saxonia Thin
A. Lange & Söhne, the birthplace of Glashute’s watchmaking, has introduced two new products along with the splendidly revived cabaret tourbillon. One is the Langematic Perpetual and the other is the Saxonia scene. Both models have been refurbished with blue dials.
The first model debuted in March 2001. It was launched a few months before the death of the brand CEO Günter Blümlein, who at the time led the rebuilding of Lange & Soigne with Walter Lange. Because it is the last posthumous work of tycoon Gunther Blulein, who has made remarkable achievements at Lange and Sohne, as well as at IWC and Jaeger-LeCoultre. The Rangematic Perpetual has since been re-released twice, in 2014 and 2019. Each was released in white gold and the brand’s own honey gold version. The new work unveiled to mark the 20th anniversary of this year is presented in two versions, white gold and pink gold, with a newly introduced blue dial.
The dial is painted a dark blue color unlike before, but the structure is not unfamiliar. The iconic outsized date display with two large windows is centered at 12 o’clock, month and leap year indicators at 3 o’clock, small seconds and moonphase at 6 o’clock, and day and night at 9 o’clock. Indicators that indicate The straight hour and minute hands, as well as the hands displaying the day and month, are painted with a luminous material. The same is true for the hour markers on the edges of the Roman numerals.
The case diameter is 38.5mm and the thickness is 10.2mm. The movement revealed through the see-through back is the in-house automatic caliber L922.1 SAX-0-MAT, which consists of 478 parts. The three-quarter plate made of German silver features Saxomart’s signature large micro rotor at a glance. The edge of the rotor is equipped with high specific gravity platinum to ensure sufficient rotational force. On the other side of the rotor are the key parts following the Glashutte style: a balance cock with hand-engraved decorations, a traditional swan-neck regulator and a screw balance.
The automatic caliber L922.1 SAX-0-MAT has a frequency of 21,600 vph (3 Hz) per hour and a power reserve of up to 46 hours. Inside, there is a zero-reset mechanism that returns the second hand to zero when the crown is removed, making it easy to set the time. It can be said that the movement name ‘SAX-0-MAT’ derived from the automobile’s automatic clutch ‘Saxomat’ came from this function in which the middle number ‘0’ is reset to zero. It’s kind of German humor. The perpetual calendar of the caliber L922.1 is unstoppable and, like any other model, will not be adjusted until 2100. If the replica watches has stopped and you need to manipulate the calendar, you can use the concave corrector on the left side of the case. The lyrical moonphases of the perpetual calendar are accurate to a margin of error of only one day in 122.6 years.
Both the pink gold (Ref. 310.037) and white gold (Ref. 310.028) versions of the new Rangematic Perpetual are matched with a crocodile leather strap in the same tone as the blue dial. Each will be limited to 50 pieces. Both are priced the same at 91,000 euros (about 122.8 million Korean won).
